Our customers have been so happy with our British Herdwicks that we’ve expanded the range to include even more sumptuous sheepskins! We now have two types available: our extremely rare 100% British Herdwicks, bred, grazed, culled and tanned entirely in the UK, and for the very first time, a small number of British Herdwick Sheepskins tanned in the EU.
After waiting almost 10 months, we’ve finally managed to get our hands on just a few – once they’re gone, they’re gone!
The 100% British supersize undyed Herdwicks are particularly special, each hand-picked for its unique colouring. Alongside them, the British Herdwicks tanned in the EU offer the same beautiful character of the breed, simply finished in a different tannery.
99% of Herdwick sheep are kept in the central and western dales of the Lake District. These rugged fells rise to over 3000 feet, face relentless westerly rain and wind, and see the country’s highest rainfall – no wonder the Herdwick is considered the hardiest of sheep! Born black, Herdwicks lighten to brown and eventually the classic grey tones, producing an incredible variety of natural shades. Both types of sheepskin capture this stunning range of colour and texture, with every rug completely unique. The fleeces are tactile, sumptuous and naturally more water-resistant than many others, taking longer to get wet and drying more quickly. Their slightly “wilder” look adds wonderful visual texture, making them true statement pieces. Perfect in any room, they look especially striking draped over chairs or in front of a fireplace – though we can’t promise your four-legged friends won’t claim them! Plus each rug comes with a complimentary sheepskin brush to keep it looking beautiful.
